How to Fit a Newborn in the Avionaut Cosmo

Newborn Fitting Guide

The Avionaut Cosmo is designed to safely carry babies from birth to 13kg/87cm. Correct harness height, insert use and positioning are important to achieve a safe and supportive fit.

• Set the harness to the lowest position

For a newborn, the harness should be adjusted to the lowest height setting so the straps are coming from level with or slightly below baby’s shoulders. Your seat will arrive with the harness on the middle setting so be sure to move it down prior to baby’s arrival.

• Position baby with their bottom at the back of the seat

Baby should be sat down in the seat so their bottom is right at the back. Their back should lie flat against the seat before tightening the harness.

• Check the shoulder pads

The harness pads should sit on baby’s shoulders and close to the neck.

• Tighten the harness correctly

The harness should be snug with no more than a one finger gap between baby’s collarbone and the harness. A gap at the stomach is normal.

Installation Note

The correct handle position depends on how the seat is installed.

• Belted installation - handle should be upright

• ISOFIX base installation - handle should be positioned towards baby’s feet

• Lift baby’s chin while tightening the harness

This helps the straps sit correctly on the shoulders rather than sliding down the arms.

• Check harness height regularly

As baby grows, the harness should be adjusted so the straps remain level with or slightly below the shoulders.

When should I move the harness up a level?

The harness should be moved up once the straps begin to sit more than 2cm below baby’s shoulders. For rear facing seats, the harness should always come from level with or slightly below the shoulders.

When can I remove the newborn inserts?

Because babies grow at different rates, there is no fixed time for removal. Your retailer has been trained by Avionaut to advise on when the insert can be removed, always contact your retailer for support if you are unsure.
