40% Sausages

We noticed you clicked on our '40% Meat' category. In the car seat world, these represent seats that meet the R129 legal requirement. They are tested, they are legal to sell, and if you are using one right now, your child is in a safe and legally-approved seat.

But here’s the thing... While every child is safer in a rear-facing seat than no seat at all, the legal minimum (40% meat) is just the starting point. Depending on your budget, there are often safer 'Best Practice' options available:

  • The 65% sausages: These seats often go beyond the law with better in-house testing or higher speeds. They offer a significant safety boost for families on a tighter budget.

  • The 90% 'Gold Standard': These have passed the Swedish Plus Test, ensuring neck forces stay below the critical injury threshold.

Our Philosophy

As an independent advice resource, we don’t list '40% Sausages' because we believe 'just legal' isn't the standard parents should have to settle for - especially when a 'Higher Meat Content' seat is often more accessible than you may think.

However, we know every family's budget, and circumstances, are different. Whether your budget is £60 or £600, our goal is to help you find the highest meat content you can afford. The most important thing is that your child is in a car seat, rear-facing for as long as possible, and is within the seat's height and weight limits.

Not sure which seat fits your child, lifestyle, or your budget?
